Great! You want to learn more about our environment, well read on dude!

I think it is so important to look after the environment because our planet is our future. We all live here and share it and we need to work together to look after it. On this website i am going to share lots of interesting information with you about the environment and especially our favourite playground- the ocean.

DID YOU KNOW?

* The Ocean is a continuous body of water which covers more than 70% of the Earth's surface.

* The Ocean is so large that to name it we divide it into four sections- The Pacific, Atlantic, Indian & Arctic. Smaller ocean regions are called either a sea, gulf or a bay. Do you know what it is called where you like to go to the beach?

* Australia has one of the most diverse ranges of fish in the world. Our waters are home to more than 4000 species of fish, including 166 species of shark and more than 110 species of seahorse.

* Every year more than 6 million tonnes of rubbish is dumped into the world's oceans.

* In every square mile of ocean it is estimated that there are over 46,000 pieces of plastic, things like plastic bags, bottles, rope, fishing nets and lines and lots more. When not properly disposed of into the bin, plastic can be harmful and even deadly to marine life. Turtles, whales and sea birds can mistake it for food or get entangled in it, causing painful injuries.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

* Always take your rubbish home with you and if you see any rubbish at the beach pick it up and put it in the bin. Would you like swimming in a rubbish dump?
